Spanning three days, the Canada Light Talks will feature a range of keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, and fireside chats. Attendees, including architects, lighting designers, engineers, real estate developers, and facility managers, will have the opportunity to engage with thought leaders from both the commercial and municipal sectors, with an agenda focused on the role of LED technology in shaping the future of lighting.
Day One Highlight (November 13, 2024): The talks will begin with an evaluation of LED Color in Design led by Robert Lanteigne, Founder of Lightbob.com. This session will explore how LED colour impacts architectural and interior design choices. Following this, the President of Augmented Illumination, Mark Lien, will deliver the keynote speech on The Future of LEDs and the Lighting Industry, shedding light on technological advancements and their applications in the global market.
The day will also include a Panel Discussion on LED Controls, featuring industry experts such as Webster Marsh (Penumbra Controls), Andrew Parker (Salex) and Will Norris (VxV Solutions), who will explore the evolving landscape of LED controls and dimming technologies. The afternoon will wrap up with a 90-minute workshop on Mastering LED Lighting Specifications by Deborah Gottesman and Sharyn Adler-Gitalis from Gottesman Associates, providing valuable hands-on insights for lighting professionals.
Day Two Highlight (November 14, 2024): The second day will open with a session on LEDs and the Aging Eye – Aging in Place led by Tom Butters, Founder and Executive Director of The Lighting Agora (Our Knowledge Partner), and Linda Kafka, Founder and Principal at LivABLE Environment Inc. This talk will explore how LED lighting can improve visibility and quality of life for aging individuals, particularly in homes designed for aging in place.
Following this, Chris Wolgamott, Senior Product Manager for Commercial Lighting at Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, along with Abiran Raveenthiran, Principal at VxV Solutions, will present on LED Controls for Commercial and Municipal Applications. This session will focus on the integration of advanced LED control systems in commercial and municipal settings, highlighting energy efficiency and management.
After The Fireside Chat on LEDs and Health will feature Robert Soler, Founder and Chief Scientist at BIOS Lighting, and Dawn Brown, Owner and Principal Designer at Ontario Aesthetic Lighting Design. This session will explore the health-related benefits and applications of LED lighting.
Following this, a 90-minute Workshop on Dimming with LEDs will be led by Andrew Parker, Partner at Salex, Webster Marsh, Owner of Penumbra Controls, and John Keating, Consultant at JV Keating. The workshop will provide insights into the technical aspects of dimming technology for LEDs, offering practical solutions for various lighting environments.
Day Three HighLight(November 15, 2024): The final day will explore Lighting to Support Circadian Rhythms, led by Robert Soler, and a thought-provoking Fireside Chat on Environmentally Friendly Exterior Lighting with Shirley Coyle, President of Cree Lighting Canada and Leora Radestky Senior Lighting Scientist and LUNA Program Director at DesignLightConsortium (DLC) The discussions will centre around environmentally sustainable lighting solutions catering to human and ecological needs. The event will conclude with a session on How Sustainable Energy Options are Aligned with Lighting, presented by David Katz, Board Chair of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association.
